West Roxbury Dog Training by Equilibrium Canine

Suburban Dog Training

West Roxbury is an urban-suburban neighborhood, which makes it challenging for dogs to behave well in public spaces. The Center Street sidewalk, Millennium Park, and Needham Line Commuter Rail Platforms present distractions that most training facilities cannot replicate. Equilibrium Canine Solutions trains in these exact locations and conditions. We train in your neighborhood to help your dog learn to behave in the environments they will encounter.

Every dog has its own strengths and weaknesses, therefore a one-size-fits-all training program is ineffective. Regardless of whether you live near Highland Station or in the quiet streets surrounding Bellevue, we have training options that cater to your dog's specific needs.

Our Expert-led Dog Training Services

Board and Train Program

Your dog will live with Nick and his pack for four to six weeks to learn lead work, off-leash obedience, socialization, and treadmill conditioning. During this time, your dog will learn to navigate the world calmly and stay connected to you under all types of distractions. We will teach your dog to calmly navigate the busy sidewalks of Center Street during peak hours, the crowded dog park at Millennium Park, and the residential tree-lined streets of West Roxbury that are filled with distractions. Upon completion of the board and train program, we will provide you with ongoing training support and provide you with a discount on future boarding for the life of your dog.

Lead Work Sessions

Develop a strong connection between you and your dog by teaching them how to fully understand the lead. There are no gimmicks—just you, the dog, and the lead. Our weekly group lead work sessions cost $50 per person and focus on proper handling while advancing both dogs' and humans' understanding of the lead. In addition to teaching proper lead work techniques, these sessions also provide socialization and community-building opportunities. We move to a variety of West Roxbury locations to help your dog learn to focus on you, regardless of where you're walking in the neighborhood. One week we'll practice on the sidewalks of Center Street; the next week we'll practice at Millennium Park.

Private Day Train Program

This is a $300-per-day program, where your dog spends the day with the pack, working with Nick, learning obedience, lead work, new behaviors, and skills. This private day train program includes a 30-minute training session prior to your dog returning home, where you will learn exactly what was practiced. This is a great option for busy West Roxbury families juggling demanding careers. While you're at work, your dog receives professional training. When you come home, your dog practices with you. We may focus on helping your dog remain calm during walks along the busy Center Street sidewalk or teach patience during longer walks in the neighborhood. Subject to availability.

Pack Day Program

The Pack Day Program costs $85 per day and provides a combination of structured lead work, structured daycare, and socialization. Each dog is worked individually on lead work, place work, and longline until they are fully off-leash with the pack. Due to space constraints, this program is available only 2x/week, until further notice. The Pack Day Program is ideal for West Roxbury dogs who require learning calm behavior around other dogs. With frequent dog interactions at Millennium Park, on Center Street, and throughout this dog-friendly neighborhood, Pack Day teaches your dog to remain neutral and to appropriately socialize with other dogs, translating to calm behavior during your daily walks.

New Puppy Program

Our New Puppy Program costs $750 and includes a slip lead. You will attend five consecutive sessions at our facility and we will cover everything you need to know to successfully raise your new canine companion. We will discuss housebreaking, establishing structure and boundaries within the home, basic lead work, basic obedience, proper play, and socialization. Since your new puppy will grow up in West Roxbury—a highly populated and dog-friendly area—it is imperative that you start your puppy off on the right foot with proper early training. Proper early training will enable your puppy to thrive at Millennium Park's dog park, on walks down Center Street, and during interactions with your neighbors and their pets throughout the community.

Basic and Advanced Obedience

We provide Basic Obedience On-Lead instruction that focuses on basic house manners and fundamental commands. Once your dog has mastered the basics, we provide Advanced Obedience Off-Leash using E-Collar Training for reliability in distracting environments and competitive motivators. Advanced Training is a great option for West Roxbury families who would like to provide their dogs with safe freedom in Millennium Park, on the trails surrounding VFW Parkway, and in your backyard. Your dog will learn to follow commands regardless of the presence of squirrels or other dogs in close proximity to you, making your life easier and your dog safer in the neighborhood.

Behavior Modification Programs

Our Behavior Modification Programs are created based on the specific needs of each individual dog. We always begin with what the dog needs before focusing on what you want. Regardless of the problem, you will need to adjust how you live and how you interact with your dog on a daily basis. Depending on the severity of the issue, some problems can be addressed through private sessions and others may require a board-and-train—each case is assessed independently. Dogs living in areas near busy Center Street require different strategies than dogs in quieter residential areas. We will create practical solutions that fit into your daily routine in West Roxbury's suburban-urban environment.

Boarding for Alumni

We offer boarding for pack members and board-and-train alumni only. As a member of our pack, if you complete one of our training programs, your dog can stay with us when you travel or need pet-sitting services. This will give you peace-of-mind knowing your well-trained dog is staying with the pack they've already formed bonds with. Contact Nick to check availability. For West Roxbury families that would like to maintain their dog's training when traveling, this is a wonderful option to ensure your dog returns home with the same good behavior that you worked so hard to establish.
